Willie Revillame's Apology to the Aquinos
This post is around 3 days late but it’s now or never. That’s because I don’t usually watch TV or I missed the news in the Internet. Anyway, news is around the country that Wowowee host Willie Revillame apologized on his noon time show after thousands of people drew their criticisms for ordering the removal of the live streaming of former President Corazon ‘Cory’ Aquino’s funeral procession from his noon time slot.
He also apologized to the Aquino family and to the network (ABS-CBN) management “for hurting their feelings.” Willie added that his request to stop the inserted video was really “a sign of love and respect for Tita Cory.”
He further explained that it was unappropriate to broadcast it since Wowowee was supposed to be a fun and lively show. Making the country happy would be very difficult for him if he’s seeing the casket of Mrs. Aquino. “Di po maganda. Nagsasaya kami dito habang nagluluksa ang sambayanang Pilipino. ‘Di ko magagampanan ang pagpapatawa habang ipinapakita ang libing ng dating presidente.” (It’s not good for us to have fun here while the whole country grieves. I cannot make people laugh at the same time that this part of the funeral of the funeral of our former president is being shown.)
In my own understanding, can’t the show at least pay its respect to the person who once again gave freedom to media and press 23 years ago? The show can go on for a long time and this rarely happens. This is not even the time for having fun and to make other people happy. What would the Aquinos think of your idea of making people laugh while the entire family is grieving?

As for me, okay lang naman siguro na ipatanggal niya, pero it should not be done ON AIR. Ang pangit kasi ng pagpapatanggal niya eh. He could have just cue for a commercial break and request that it could be removed from the show. Hindi ‘yung narinig ng mga nanonood ‘yung sinabi niya. Sinabi pa kasi niya na kung gusto niyo ‘yang ipalabas, iyan nalang, wag na ung show niya. Parang pinapamili pa niya ang ABS-CBN kung sino ang dapat na ipakita ON AIR.
Unahin muna dapat ang magisip bago ang magsalita.

My thoughts would be, he should have at least considered even 1 day to give way and pay respect, as he said he did have one. It’s not rocket science.

Whatever his reasons were, words were said and apologies were made. So, it may be just the optimist in me, but I do hope that such regretful statements were retracted truthfully from a public apology.

If that is the case Willie should have cancelled the show for that day because in his own words “nagluluksa ang sambayanang Pilipino”. That is what President Cory would have called – extreme sacrifice. But his arrogance and empty apologies show what kind of person he is – greedy.

what willie did and said in his noontime show refelcted what kind of character and breeding he has…if he has any…kahit nag-apologized na siya…andun na ang marka ng nangyari…it left a bad aftertaste…he may have millions but he can not buy good manners and right conduct…

Agree, Alam mo Willie, kung totoong nagluluksa ka, tulad ng pinalalalabas mo, sana ikaw na mismo ang nag give way kay Pres. Cory, that is kung alam mo ang salitang “Respeto”. E kaso magaling kang mag kunwari eh. Maaring marami kang napapaniwala sa mga sinasabi at pambobola mo, pero alam mo, hindi lahat ng tao maloloko mo. Kahit saan mo pang angulo tignan ang ginawa mo, kahit pa tanga na ang tao, malinaw na malinaw ang ginawa mo, kaya wag ka na magpalusot. Napaka Bastos mo. Walang breeding! Kahit mayaman at napaka sikat mo na, insecure ka parin? Naagawan ka ba ng ratings ng ” Maraming Salamat President Cory” ? Sus, pati ba sa isang namayapa na, na thre-threatened ka? napaka Obvious naman yun reason ng pag outburst mo. diba? Magaling ka naman gumawa ng mga gimik mo, bumawi ka nalang next time. Konting galang lang sa dating Presidente Cory.

Kung hindi dahil kay Pres. Cory, wala itong ABS-CBN na ito, kung saan nangagaling lahat ng kinikita mo. Wala sana itong lahat na tinatamasa mo. Ang taong di marunong lumingon sa pinangalingan, walang paroroonan.

In my opinion, the management should be also blame not only Willie. The point here is why did they decide not to give way on Tita Cory’s death special telecast. I know maybe a day before or earlier before wowowee’s time the management brainstormed whether they will give way or continue to show wowowee. So now, you have seen the fruit of a wrong decision. Maybe the management have some valid reason why did they decide for this. And I don’t think there will be much valid than Tita Cory. But dont forget the fact, that through Tita Cory the network exist again. It’s a matter of paying your debt, but for what happened, the wowowee become a thing of disrespect to the solemnity of the funeral. It’is logical, there are grieving for a death (the world icon of Democracy) and here you are doing an opposite treatment which is having some fun. Very clear that it’s contradicting. It’s better and bettier if you show only wowowee as solo on its time slot , rather than simultaneously airing a very clear contrast program to each other. There should be punished for this!

Naku willie! we are always watching wowowee,pero sa ginawa mo tama yong sinabi ng ibang nag comments. ano ba namang isang araw lang nagpaliban ka muna sa programa mo para bigyang daan mag live covearge para sa libing ni dating president cory aquino. We really like you as a host,pero i think u know that bcoz of pres. cory kaya namamayagpag uli ang abs cbn ngayon kung saan ka kumukuha ng iyong kayamanan.
Sobra kami naiinis kapag tinutuligsa ka ni joey sa kabilang network ang tingin namin sa kanya kontrabida at ikaw ang bida. Pero ngayon mukhang nabaliktad na dahil sa wala kang respeto sa dating pangulo. We are not pro-cory pero nirespeto namin sya dahil isa syang naging mabuting pangulo at kabilang sya sa kasaysayan ng ating bansa. Sobra naman ang abs-cbn kapag pinagbigyan ka pa rin sa iyong nagawang kasalanan.
Hindi namin inaakala na ganyan ka pala kabastos baka naman ugali mo talaga yan in real life. Pls respect others kasi baka mawala lahat na yaman mo dahil wala kang utang na loob!

Tnx for this abs-cbn comments site. Atleast pwede namin maibigay at maipaabot ang aming opinion sa inyong mga programs. U better think a lot muna siguro Willie bago ka nag salita,alam mo kahit sino pa ang tanungin mo at paikot ikutin mo man ang dahilan mo u’ve got a big mistake pa rin. abs-cbn should give way muna sana para sa libing ni dating mahal na pangulong cory. Bakit kailangan yang wowowee na yan ang paboran nyo? Diba napakalaking ambag nagawa ni tita cory sa station nyo? bakit masasayang ba ang milyon na kikitain nyo that day?
Siguro naman kung hindi pinaglaban ni tita cory ang demokrasya baka ngayon walang abs cbn na numero uno sa sambayanang pilipino but bcoz of what he did (willie) nadadamay tuloy ang station nyo.
We want willie to get away from ur station na. Kapag nakita pa rin namin sya sa programa nya ibig sabihin nyan mas mahaga pa rin talaga sya sainyo than the aquinos family. Sabagay that’s ur business to earn millions at dahil si wiilie ata ang napalaki na inaakyat sainyong salapi kaya mahirap nyong pakawalan. Napakarami nya na nagawang pagkakamali at pinatatawad nyo pa rin sya pero sana naman sa nangyari na to bilang respect na lang sa nagbalik ng democracy alisin na yan dyan at wala yan magagawang mabuti sa mga manonood.

1. Preempting a primetime program on television is an upper-management decision. if he (Revillame) has a say somewhat, I don’t think it’s his sole decision.
2. He has a job to do, and it’s his job to make people laugh.
3. The overly-used cliché: The show must go on.
4. Why whould most people ‘obligate’ them (Revillame, et al.) to cancel the show for the day to show reverence? To answer, refer to point #2 & #3.
5. Revillame (et al.) are showing their level of professionalism. So, by not preempting the show, it sums up what kind of people in Wowowee are?
With the kind of logic a lot have been expressing, so a public figure (or more specifically, a comedic host) should be a virtuous individual?

Another thing, (my most heartwarming apologies but) the late Corazon Aquino is not People Power per se.
Kaya nga ‘people’ power e. The entire Filipino people is what made the revolution possible.
Ang buong sambayanan kasi lumuluksa sa pagkawala ng isa sa mga naging kagalang-galang na naging pinuno ng bayan. Sana lang nakiisa ang ABS-CBN, Hindi nito pinangatawanan ang bansag nila sa sarili nila na ‘Kapamilya ng Sambayanang Filipino’.
I may not be a devout (Catholic) but there is a fitting bible verse for this.
