Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money–That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!

August 2, 2009

My Smart BROken connection got shot for 2 days leaving me useless and unable to browse lots of sites. So I decided to go to the mall for some air. I went to the bookstore and checked out some new computer books since I’m struggling to learn PHP Programming (ergh I hate programming). I checked out business section as well and I passed by a familiar book named Rich Dad Poor Dad. I remembered David, my business partner, telling me about this book and it’s a pretty good investment to read it. I’m not a book worm myself but I gave it a try. For Php 355.00 (around $8) I bought it. Yargh!

While I was on a coffee shop, I decided to start reading. The book is actually about financial independence by investing, real estate, owning businesses and strategy for a better finance protection. The author, Robert Kiyosaki stresses out about owning the system than being an employee. It talks greatly about the disadvantages of employment which I actually have just understood. Some of the best quotes that I liked are: “Saving Money Won’t Make You Rich” and “Physical exercise improves health, mental exercise improves wealth while laziness destroys both”.

After reading the entire book, I feel a bit disappointed. There were exaggerations and I feel there’s fabrication in the content. The some of the advices were too advanced for me apply or it’s not good trying for. He could have at least indicate where to start or how to proceed after that so called “rat race”.

I won’t say the book was completely useless because there were some good points I learned from the author such as the the difference in investing and employment. If I am to rate the book from a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is highest), i’d give it a 4.

  3. Whoa, that’s a failing mark. I’m not a bookworm too. Honestly, I am not fond of reading books. But I am fond of reading blog posts.

Well, at least you still have learned something from your $8 ayt? :D

  4. @madz yeah. i learned not to spend without checking reviews first. hahaha

  6. Hahahaha. Big regrets. Tsk.

  7. Wow.. only 4? I had an ebook of this Rich Dad, Poor Dad before (wasn’t able to back up when we refortmated).. Anyway, I was able too read I think the first 3 chapters when the kids are being taught how to invest money. I’m not sure if I get the concept, but perusing through, I also didn’t get the “rat race” he’s talking about.

For $8 I guess it’s not that pricey. Some things are really hard to do, easier said than done. Let’s tell the author that. But there are people who really are making progress and I guess those are the people that I will have to follow.

^^ v btw, my boyfriend is a PHP programmer. ^^
